It's hard to believe this is Cindi Madsen's first new adult novel. I did enjoy seeing Beck and Lyla deepen their friendship while trying to figure out a new equilibrium as lovers. The story flowed smoothly and there were no huge surprises. I read this book quickly and it was enjoyable for the most part. I did like how she took charge and didn't hesitate to make changes when she decided on a plan of action. I also didn't like how Lyla used someone being rude, insensitive, and mean as the impetus to change herself. He already liked her as a person, but he didn't desire her until then. Makeovers are fine, but it didn't take Beck to truly desire Lyla until he saw her in skimpy clothing, makeup, contacts, etc. I felt like she fought the most for him to see how good they could be. I liked Lyla for for being a good friend to Beck when he needed it and even when he did't want it. I really liked the chemistry they had together, both as friends, and then as a possible romantic couple. I liked how Beck was there for Lyla when she needed him, and how she knew she could count on him. They were good together, having a firm relationship basis with their strong friendship. The two might not seem like they're meant for each other, but they've just been friends until Lyla decides to change herself. In this case, it was nerdy, geeky Lyla who was best friends with college athlete and stud Beck. I love it when unlikely couples come together and go the distance.
